Nelly Schmuel
Biography
Nelly Schmuel joined Makarem & Associates as an associate attorney in March 2026. Nelly handles cases in all the firm’s practice areas, including class-action litigation, legal malpractice, and individual employment. She represents clients in a range of employment matters, including wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims.
Prior to working at Makarem & Associates, Nelly practiced indigent criminal defense with the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office and as a solo-practitioner with the Independent Defender Counsel Office.
Nelly received her J.D. from UCLA School of Law in 2019. She received her undergraduate degree from UC Santa Barbara in 2016, graduating with Highest Honors in Global Studies.
In her free time, Nelly enjoys swimming, knitting, and reading sci-fi novels.
